insert flame here
if you want another reason why henchies are INDESPENSIBLE, try playing late at night. I went to ember light camp once at around 1 in the morning, there was like 2 people there.
And its the same everytime i play late, you get areas that are just empty.

Heal Other is really expensive.
I take WoH over it everytime possible (sometimes you need martyr, spell breaker or the like for your team build). But you can't sustain with too many 10 energy heals long enough.
It may be possible with 10 energy heals but it is really not needed. With WoH you just need to coordinate with the other monks...
To sum up: I run a monk with only Healing Seed, Devine Spirit, Aegis, Spell Breaker as more than 5 energy heals - and only when needed.
And it works good enough.

Ah doh, that's the key:
"With WoH you just need to coordinate with the other monks..."
I usually don't have other monks. Except in PvP but there, any healing is needed. Consider that Heal Other is 150pts+DF, Horizon is 60+DF, so H.O. it's more energy efficient - if used correctly. With good energy management you can keep up 10 energy heals almost indefinitely: I use Offering of Blood and healing touch, or alternatively Energy Drain and some other mesmer leech skill.
Heal other (151+38DF for 10 energy) is slightly less energy efficient than Orizon (60+38DF for 5 energy), with a slightly shorter casting time. That's if your DF is maxed at 12, if it's lower, it tilts toward h.o. OTOH, it leaves you more "down" time in which you can cast other stuff or just realize where your comrades are going
IMO.

I knew Barnum and Bailey said so, but, I didn't believe it till I read your post. But, it is true a fool is born every minute and most of them live.
Who are you to determine how a person plays online? Who are you to determine that they should group only if they play online? Just who the hell are you? I'll tell you who, you are NOBODY, an IGMO and I'm happy A-Net has no interest in listening to you or complying with your demand.
Normal people in this world like and enjoy "variety", once you break something down into only one type of play or the only type of play you reduce population. and also for the company reduce "income/revenue" for the game made. It's in the best interest of the company to design a game many types of people enjoy instead of just one "selfish" type of player like yourself.
A good example of a game you are talking about is Shadowbane, a complete flop because it was PVP only and nothing for the casual/soloist type of gamer. Barely has 20,000 population of players left now, be one of those off the charts not far down the road. How bout instead of those that like to play with henchies should play a single player game offline that instead you go play Shadowbane? eh?

So coordinating is very easy

sorry, I can't follow you...
with 38 DF you heal with 2 orisons for:
60+38+60+38=196
and with HO
150+38 = 188
seems like orison is more effective

that requires me to choose my secondary only for energy management and I need to invest points just for energy management... which I could put in DF for more 'bang'
the more DF you have, the more effective orison becomes.

maxed is for me more than 12

you completely ignored WoH which is much more effective than HO.
I say you don't need HO, I don't say HO is useless.
for the "down" time - you forget to take your Offering of blood, energy drain, etc. into account
With energy draining and QZ up, it is much harder to get 10 or 13 energy than it is to get 5 or 7 energy - so that is also an important point.
please don't be so narrow minded and believe that your build is superior to any other - I just said that mine is also good.

k last reply then we can continue in pvt if you like.
Yes, I meant Horizon is slightly more efficient with high DF. Maxed without runes or equip is 12, of course you can and will go higher... but rarely over 13, which means if my math is correct 41 hp. Add 3 on both sides, won't change much.
WoH is an elite... strong, but I can do without it, and use elites for other things that can't be effectively be done without. Actually we didn't talk about Healing Touch, which is a very strong self-healing spell for 5 energy... my point is not that you CAN'T do a build with only 5en spells, my point is that you CAN make it work with 10energy spells.
As per my build being "superior", never thought or implied anything like that. My build works for ME, but that's the extent of my trust in it. We all have our preferences.

This, in addition to being an online game, is supposed to be a game of skill, strategy and intelligence.
Let's remove henchmen and stupid people. I'd say that would resolve both of our problems.

Reasons NOT to take Henchies out:
1. They can provide a good "Fill in" when you've been standing around trying to assemble a team for hours.
2. They allow for people who bought the game and do not want to participate in PUGs to play.
3. They are effective, obedient, co-operative and do a decent job
4. They don't spam your chat with "U r all n00bz!U 5uxxor!OMGLOL!1!onelelven" while drawing phalluses on the minimap
5. You are in more control of the pace of the game, and don't have anyone else to dictate it for you.
6. They are useful as meat-shields
7. They allow you to do practice runs of missions so you can tweak your build and get some experience of the layout before you team up with others.
Reasons to remove henchies:
1. Ummm.......because the OP doesn't like them?

I agree wholeheartedly, especially with the two points above.
In most of the PUGs I've joined it's been a quick 'run here, run there', 'I know the way!' - if it weren't for henchies I would have, perhaps, only seen 50% of the game/areas.
As I wrote in another post, my first foray into the underworld was a disaster, mainly because I hadn't henched it previously and had no idea what skills to take. I assume now that the group who invited me thought I was a trapper. We didn't get very far, it was a mixed group, but it was fun trying. Was a great group though, no name-calling whatsoever.
As for those who say they can't get a game in the underworld unless they're a monk, in Temple of the Ages, I messaged "Job Offer: - 1st timer/old-timers preferred, no exp necessary, any class, just for fun" for about 15 minutes and got absolutely NO takers at all. Maybe because EU has favour so seldom that everyone only wants experienced groups?
Keep henchies, level them to 20, allow them everywhere!
